Just Press Pause
Right now, go ahead and try this experiment.
Stop whatever you are doing.
Now press the pause button….and just be.
Become aware of what is happening right now. Notice your breathing, what it feels like to sit in your chair, the space around you. Take your time…. Just notice.
As you do this, there may be thoughts buzzing around your head. Let them buzz. The heart beats, the lungs breathe, the brain thinks. Let it…you don’t have to interfere. If a memory comes to the surface, notice that even if it’s clear, it doesn’t have the same impact as what is happening right now.
Notice too that there is a background to all of this activity. In this space there is a flow of breathing, there is sensation in the body, and there is a movement of energy that is alive now…and the nature of this never, ever changes. All of this, everything that is real, takes place in the space of this moment. It is in this space where everything is happening, even if you get distracted and don’t notice.
This life that you are lives only now, not in the past or future of your thoughts. This awareness doesn’t take practice or discipline; it doesn’t even take any effort. It’s just seeing what is here now…what is true.
So as you go about your day, remember to take a moment to press the pause button and just be. This is where your life is happening…in this present and oh-so-precious moment.
